Kampala Businesswoman Reveals How She Lost All Her Customers Overnight

It was reported that Ruth, a prominent businesswoman from Kabalagala, had spent nearly eight years building a successful cosmetics shop that many people admired. She said her shelves were always stocked, customers trusted her, and she had strong relationships with her suppliers.

Ruth reportedly added that at the peak of her business, she employed two assistants and had even planned to open a second branch. She believed her hard work was finally paying off, and everything seemed to be going smoothly.

However, she explained, things changed abruptly, so suddenly that she struggled to understand what had happened. She said it began gradually: a few customers stopped coming, and then more followed. Within two weeks, her once-busy shop had become eerily quiet. People who had been regulars now walked in, looked around, gave excuses, and left without buying anything. At first, she thought it might just be a slow month, but the situation only worsened.

Ruth reported that she tried everything—promotions, discounts, and introducing new brands—but nothing worked. She also noted that the strangest part was seeing customers walk past her shop to buy the same products from other nearby stores, even shops that had previously copied her. She said it felt as though people were intentionally avoiding her.

According to Ruth, one of her closest friends suggested it might be competition, but she insisted that competition had always existed and had never been a real threat. She also recalled that her suppliers noticed the change and began asking if everything was okay because she had reduced her stock orders drastically.

Within two months, she said, she went from earning comfortably to struggling to pay rent. Her children’s school fees became a burden, and she admitted waking up at night feeling stressed and questioning what mistake she had made.

Ruth added that she eventually visited her aunt in Nansana to seek advice. She described her aunt as someone she trusted deeply, someone who spoke only when necessary, and whose guidance she hoped could help her.To read more, tap herew
