Ageing Terezina Zanyaru recalls the suffering during flight to Zaire (democratic Republic of Congo) in the 1980s when while carrying cooked food in her hand, baby on the back and other children in front, they ran under the threatening cacophony of gunshots.

After crossing the border, she left the children hiding in the bush as she returned to collect other family belongings only to be robbed by the Zairian solders upon crossing with them.

Others who endured those torrent moments recall losing goats, chicken and money to the unruly Zairian soldiers of the past.
