ARUA: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2025
Nezima Ocokoru, a candidate of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and Sunday Baguma of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) were the headline nominated candidate on Monday as the race for the Arua Central Division Mayor gets underway.
The returning officer Osman Ezale declared both candidates dully nominated following a rigorous verification of their credentials and contingent of supporters.
They were joined by two independent candidates Flavia Avako and Wahab Alege who were also nominated, although more candidates are expected to join the race in the next two days.

Ocokoru, the former chairperson of Arua Hill Division promised to offer quality leadership anchored on her previous experience in council.
“The youths are doing things not expected of them as they loiter by the roadsides. Women need to be brought into the development agenda,” she said.
Ocokoru decried the politics of religion and gender discrimination where women are demeaned as unfit for leadership as she called for attitude change.
She pledged to devote her campaign time to do civic education to guard against voter bribery and in order to empower the people to demand for services they should get since they are the taxpayers.

Baguma on the other hand said he will carry out the NRM manifesto and ensure that Arua is an inclusive city of healthy and prosperous people.
A lawyer by profession, Baguma insisted on rendering professional leadership based on integrity and social responsibility.
He said he will work to fix the broken-down road networks and address youth unemployment question.
Baguma reiterated that he will use his salary to pay tuition for at least one female doctor as a way of encouraging promotion of education in Arua Central Division.
