BUGA MAYOR ON WHY HE IS CONTESTING FOR CITY COUNCILOR

Hon Mayor Buga, the former Arua district secretary for health is plotting a comeback into council, this time to represent Arua Central Division in the City council.

It is one of the three coveted positions for directly elected councilors for which 14 people have been nominated.

Buga has not been in council for five years but he said he has been offering voluntary services to guide executive decisions as if he was a councilor.

“I thank the people for supporting me in this noble cause. Supporters have come from all the wards, and this is a sign of victory to come,” he said after his nomination on Friday.

He pledged to offer effective representation and quality debate in council, push for elevation of Oli health centre IV is elevated to City hospital.

He also promised to advocate for maternal healthcare improvement banking on his education background in nursing.

Buga pointed out the relatively low level of illiteracy among the Central Division residents as a setback to development and pledged to promote education and land security through transparent land registration.

He suggested that the government should give a blanket registration regime that is subsidized or offered free for city dwellers.

The candidate who is vying on independent ticket has urged the people to look at the quality and integrity of the candidates while making their choice. He has chosen a chair as a campaign symbol, saying it is a reference to his 15 years’ experience in contacting council business.

Buga said when he wins, he will provide quality leadership and asked people not to prioritize petty cash handouts in exchange for votes.

There are three positions for directly elected City councilors for which a total of 14 people got nominated while for women representatives, also 14 contestants are tussling out for six positions.

Osman Ezale, the Arua returning officer told the candidates not to begin campaigns until after harmonization of campaign schedules.

He said this will be done after September 10th when the nominations for the Division Mayors and councilors is concluded.

Several women who accompanied him to the nomination center including Zaituni Ahmed from Pangisa ward, Fatumah Ajiko from Tanganyika, Dawa Zubeda from Awindiri and Faima Mave from Kenya ward all said they trust Buga on account of his track record in the previous council of Arua.
