The year 2020 began like a normal year for Flavia Candiru, a resident of Ozoo Pedele in Aru territory in Ituri province, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

A sudden severe illness shrouded in mysterious origin changed the whole story and with it the spiritual trajectory of her life.

On the 2025 New Year’s Day, Candiru, the mother of three recounted how she walked across the border to visit a witchdoctor in Logiri Sub County, Arua district; itself a strange turn of event as most people move from Uganda to consult witchdoctors in DR Congo.

Her condition never improved and next she started buying medications from the clinics and drug shops. What followed was a continuous deterioration of the illness.

Candiru then moved to Odia in Arua district, Uganda, ignoring the loose border restrictions imposed as part of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.

She found a church that began as a family alter during the pandemic but which was conducting healing and deliverance to sick people.

She began attending church services, counselling services and when she received her healing, Candiru became an intercessor.

She asked for a home ministry to be conducted to cleanse their home back in DRC. But in order to organize such a special prayer service, Candiru was required to pay sh100,000 and additional sh120,000 for transport.

When she went back to DRC to inform her mother and the family members to prepare for the prayer service, which was when Candiru saw firsthand the revenge attack by demons.

She found her mother ill and in pains as evil spirits kept coming to attack with lights. Immediately, Candiru took her mother to Odia in Uganda where she was prayed for and she also got healed.

A subsequent family meeting ended in disarray with some brothers opposing the home ministry, which was eventually held.

She began praying with other Christians who joined the family in worshipping in truth and in spirit.

As the church began taking root in 2022, startled religious and government leaders began fretting and growing nervous. They tried to intimidate and suppress Candiru and her new converts but in vain.

Today over 100 Christian families have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior and regularly converge to pray from the new church that is now the official registered branch of the FAVOUR Prayer Church Ministries headquartered at Odia II in Arua district of Uganda.

FAVOUR that means Faithful Actions, Value of Universal Righteousness is led by Prophetess Grace Ayikoru and Pastor James Obetia.

During the 2025 New Year Celebrations on Wednesday, Prophetess Ayikoru, urged the Ozoo people to remain steadfast and ignore all the intimidation and persecutions that they are going through as a result of being believers and followers of Christ.

She said Christians must give their lives completely for the service of God who will in turn provide for their needs in the New Year.

“This is going to be a year of restoration and breakthroughs for the faithful,” said Prophetess Ayikoru.
